Spray trucks or water trucks are outfitted with controlled spray nozzles and are commonly used to provide water for construction, agriculture and fire control.
Water trucks provide a portable and ready water source for a variety of needs that arise at construction sites. They are effectively used for dust control at sites that kick up a lot of dust. The water and truck tamp down dust while grading equipment levels and prepares soil for work. Many construction sites are required to provide dust control in order to be compliant with the air quality standards enforced by Air Quality Management District. They are also very effective in soil compaction. Soil must be compacted to create a flat, even ground at construction sites so that buildings, roads, bridges etc. can be built safely. When soil is compacted with heavyweight compacting equipment like rollers, rammers and vibratory plates, the air is removed from the soil while the water remains. Getting the right ratio of water is key to creating good compaction.
Water trucks are especially useful in remote, rural areas where municipal water sources are few and far between. They are used in agriculture to provide supplemental water when rainfall and other water supplies are low, so both crops and livestock can be saved. They can also transport water needed to control fires and dampen fire-prone areas.
